Want to know how you can get invited to an app where people like Naval Ravikant and Elon Musk hang out? First things first, you need to get invited.

Clubhouse is a new social media app that has been gaining popularity recently. If you've seen some news lately, you are likely to have seen the interview with Robinhood CEO, Vlad Tenev, which was hosted through the Clubhouse app by none other than Elon Musk. Big names such as Musk make the app a perfect place to try and grow your professional network. However, even if you aren't going to have one on one conversations with these big names there are many ways for you to get your name out there to professionals in your area that can boost your social and/or professional presence. There are unfortunately a few barriers. (If you really just want to know how to get an invite, skip to the heading titled "Barrier 2" below).

Why You Want to be Invited

Clubhouse is an iOS application that allows professionals of certain fields to host voice chat rooms in order to have conversations, present new ideas in their respective field, host interviews with popular people, conduct Ted Talk style conferences, etc. If you're interested in talking about politics then you can join rooms that have discussions on political ideas going on. If you're interested in VC funding and want to get your name heard in the field then you can join rooms that popular VCs host and try to network there. If you want to learn how to manage your YouTube channel better, there are even feedback sessions in some of these voice chat rooms that offer direct feedback on YouTube channels given by professionals in the YouTube sector.

The conversations that go on in Clubhouse are happening in real time, meaning that you don't have to wait for people on YouTube to edit their videos and release material that is technically already outdated. You are right there where the "magic" is happening and I don't know about you but to me that's is pretty exciting.

Now that we have some motivation on why we want to be a part of the app, let's see some barriers stopping us from joining and how to overcome them.

Barrier 1: You Need an iOS Device

Sorry android users, but until further notice Clubhouse is an iOS exclusive app. I do not advise any android users to go out there and switch to iOS just to be able to use this app because eventually the makers of Clubhouse want to expand to android as well. Until that day comes I would recommend android users to go on YouTube and search for some interesting Clubhouse recordings that have already taken place and get a feel for what the app is like. Once the android app comes out then you'll already know how to get the most out of the app and waste no time on-boarding.

Barrier 2: You Need to be Invited

That's right, this is an exclusive app. Only the cool cats get to use it. Just kidding, but you do need to be invited by someone else who is already on the app to be able to use it. People that are already on the app have a minimum of 2 invites that they can use, so if you know anyone already on the app then asking them for an invite is the easiest way for you to get access as well! Ask nicely and offer to buy them a coffee in return.

The next best way to get an invite to Clubhouse is to participate in online discussions on the topic. There is a subreddit, /r/ClubhouseInvites/, where people either sell their invites away or even give them away for free! Remember to always be nice in online forums such as Reddit and be sure to sell your story on why you want to be a part of the Clubhouse community because there's always the chance that sellers may change their mind and give their invites out for free given a good enough reason.

If you truly cannot find an invite, there is an option to be put on the waiting list but this can take on the order of weeks to months. I advise readers to look for a way to be invited if they really want to use the app while it's quickly gaining traction.

This invitation feature is not a permanent feature and eventually the makers of Clubhouse want to be able to give access to everyone, but until then try to look for ways to get invites either from friends, mutuals, or random people on the internet!

Conclusion

Clubhouse is a great app to widen your social and/or professional bubble as well as to gain a plethora of new found knowledge is many fields. If you really want to be a part of the app, then make sure that you are trying to get invited by people that you know or by people online that are willing to give their invites away. Once you are in the app you'll be able to pick the topics and fields that you are interested in and join rooms right away in order to listen to and partake in interesting conversations. If you have something interesting to share yourself then make a room and share your knowledge! The future of learning is rapidly evolving, and Clubhouse is a great example of that. A social media app that encourages users to learn in conversational ways, quite the groundbreaking application if you ask me.
